International Master (IM) Himanshu Darshan emerged as leader after round nine of the 10-round All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament being played here today. Another IM, Lahiri Atanu has been placed at No. 2 position with eight points earned by him after holding Himanshu to a draw in round eight this morning, reports reaching here said. In today’s round nine, played this evening, Himanshu defeated Rupankar Nath (2142). Meanwhile, two Jammu boys who are competing in this tournament were doing well. While Ritwan Sountra has earned six points out of nine rounds, Sumit Grower was playing his ninth round when last reports reached here. He has gained five points out of eight rounds. “The way current state champion, Ritwan played today, he is sure to find berth among the first 10 positions to become eligible for prize money,” general secretary of All J&K Chess Association, Baldev Raj told SAN. Prominent among those present in today’s matches and also played an active role in the conduct of the competition were Sat Pal Sharma, Surjit Singh Manhas, Sumesh Kumar, G R Khajuria (advocate) and Vikram Slathia.
