District Kathua XI today registered a big 71 runs victory over district Poonch, courtesy the team played as a unit, in the ongoing Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Cricket Tournament organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at Hostel Ground of GGM Science College, here. Batting first after winning the toss, Kathua XI made 161 runs losing all their wickets in 36.4 overs of the 40 overs match. In reply, Poonch boys could not chase the target and bowled out for 90 runs in 25.1 overs. Vishal was top scorer with 42 (off 47 balls, 4x4) while Neeraj and Nirdosh contributed 37 and 25 runs respectively. Naveed and Rupinder claimed three wickets each from Poonch. Deepak bagged two, followed by Ajeet and Imran, who shared apiece each. Later, chasing a target of over four runs per over, Poonch made a poor start losing their six wickets for 50 runs. Though Parwaiz and Nawaz (unbeaten 19) played well but could not control their nerves and lost their wickets in hurry. Parwaiz faced only 14 balls to made 19 runs hitting three boundaries. The whole side bowled out for 90 runs in 25.1 overs. Wasim was other batsman who scored in double digit with 10 runs in his account. From Kathua, Ompal claimed three wickets for 22 runs in six overs while Tarsem, Himanshu, Rompy and Vikas shared two wickets each. Among the bowlers, young Himanshu was impressive enough in his stride to disturb the Poonch middle order. Himanshu bowled first two overs maiden with two wickets. However, in the next three overs he gave away 18 runs.
