| Azad for full exploration of rich mineral deposits | | | Srinagar, August 31 - “Keeping in view massive development, creation of infrastructure and reconstruction, execution of works in double and triple shifts, launching of Bharat Nirman projects for road network, implementation of Prime Minister’s reconstruction plan, works under NURAM and other central and state projects all concerned development departments should ensure stocking of cement which is prerequisite for all kinds of works”, said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad while chairing a high level meeting for establishment of various cement plants and regular supply of cement to Jammu and Kashmir state here today. Transport Minister Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary Power Development Mr. Madhav Lal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Commissioner/Secretary R&B Mr. Atal Dulloo, Secretary Rural Development Mr. M.S. Khan and representatives of Jai Shree Cement and other entrepreneurs attended the meeting. In the meeting, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce informed that cement is one of the essential items which has been approved for Srinagar-Muzaffarabad trade exchange which is likely to start in future, therefore, production of cement in Jammu and Kashmir will prove helpful in boosting the economy of the state and raise our GDP. Chief Minister said that God has enriched Jammu and Kashmir with various precious minerals and hydel resources and it is the responsibility of state machinery to energise itself for exploration of the same. The meeting was informed that limestone and gypsum are available in abundance in the state. It was also informed that the quality of limestone and gypsum in the state is far superior and best. Mr. Azad said that private entrepreneurs should be persuaded to establish their mega cement plants in the state keeping in view the need of the state and also its capability on the basis of rich limestone deposits to export it to other places. Chief Minister also emphasized that Kalakote coal deposits on which work has been abandoned for long should be fully revitalized so that power project established in the area is also again made functional. Mr. Azad advised concerned ministries to study various project reports so that all willing entrepreneurs are able to set up their units for the benefit of the state. The meeting was also informed that cement requirement per month will reach to 2.25 lakh tonnes as a result of launching of massive development projects and completion of ongoing projects in the state while the present production capacity is only 50 to 60 tonnes. Therefore, there is huge potential to fill-up the production gap with full exploration of mineral deposits, he added. |
