| Terrorist or lover? Killed girl's family cries foul | | | Early Times Reporter Doda | June 5
Twenty-three-year-old Samrina was recently shot dead in an encounter. Security forces say Samrina was a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant but her family claims she was being used by the agencies to “trap” a terrorist she fell in love with. It’s been a week since Samrina was shot dead along with top LeT commander Shabir Ahmad Ittu in Doda. Security forces say Samrina was Ittu’s paramour who masterminded the massacre of 31 people in Kulhand in 2006. But it’s a story Samrina's family is finding hard to believe. “Our family had no association with that terrorist. Our daughter was used by the security agencies to trap the terrorists. She was never involved,” says her father, Ghulam Nabi Shah. This is one testimony Samrina's mother Shamima stands by. “She was not a terrorist and had no links with terrorists. She had such a weak heart that at night she would not even go to the washroom alone. She was such a docile girl,” she says. But the family still cannot explain why Samrina was with the terrorists on the day of encounter. She had been arrested in January for her links with Ittu and was actually out on bail when she was killed. Women in Jammu and Kashmir have been caught in the conflict for years now-exploited by terrorists and even by security agencies.
