| Sinha to continue, for a while | | Azad wins Mufti loses again in Delhi Durbar | | Early Times Reporter

All those people who were eagerly awaiting to see Governor SK Sinha’s back have been left thunderstruck scratching their own back and heads for some more time as the Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad has won and PDP patron Mufti Mohd.Sayeed has lost yet another battle in the Delhi durbar.
The latter had been campaigning against Governor,S.K. Sinha,to the extent that he is said to have spent several days in Delhi persuading the central Government and the Congress high command not extend the tenure of Mr Sinha.
Latest reports said that Mr Sinha may be asked to continue till the ensuing Assembly elections were over.His stay in the Raj Bhawan had to be extended because the annual Amarnath Yatra was to being from June 18 and the arrangements for the pilgrimage were being finalized by the Board that is headed by Governor,S.K.Sinha.
The relations between Sinha and the Muftis had remained strained for all these years.Sinha had felt upset over the way the PDP leadership had launched a campaign against the Amarnath Shrine Board on one pretext or the other.As constitutional head the Governor had no other alternative but to stomach the offensive launched against him by the PDP.And the PDP leadership has a reason the sulk as its demand for change of guard in the Raj Bhawan had not been conceded.This way it has been a major setback for the PDP who had earlier felt hit hard when the Governor sanctioned prosection of senior vicepresident of PDP Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari who has been charged with tax evasion.
Another feather in the cap of Ghulam Nabi Azad is that he is the only chief Minister who has been nominated to a seven-member Congress committee,which has been constituted by the party high command for reviving the Coingress ahead of polls in several states and for the Lok Sabha.By nominating Azad to this committee,which is headed by the Defence Minister,A.K.Antony,the Congress high command has caused a tremor in the PDP camp which had been campaigning in favour of Saifud Din Soz replacing Azad as Chief Minister.This way the PDP has lost on the two bat tle front.It has lost in its fight to change the Governor.It has lost in its war against Azad. |
