Over a dozen injure in police cane charge
6/6/2008 10:49:47 PM
Shopian | June 6
Over a dozen persons were injured after police resorted to lathicharge to stop a mob of about hundred people who were trying to barge into Deputy commissioner's office here to register their protest against alleged atrocities by security forces.
Trouble erupted out side the DC office when an irate mob tried to forcible enter into the premises, eyewitnesses said.
The protestors had tried to barge into the office after the special operations unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF had cordoned off their village. While conducting house-to-house searches, the police, allegedly fired tear gas shells, roughed up the locals and even abused some of them.
