Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 19: The employees of Power development department today held a joint meeting of union representatives from Jammu and Srinagar here in Jammu against the unilateral move of the Government to unbundle the department and create companies, without involving the employees who as major stake holders.
The members raised strongly the service issues arising out of non transparency in unbundling. The members appealed the Cabinet Minister for Power, Union of India and His Excellency Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to hold consultative process with the stakeholders including employee representatives before splitting the Power Development department into companies.
The members have a firm belief that Power development department can deliver in much better way if reorganised properly as a Government department.
Having successfully implemented 100 percent electrification target as set out in Saubhagaya scheme of the Government of India and awarded nationally for the said achievement, it is well within the reach that Power development department can achieve greater heights if it proceeds ahead with departmental reforms other than proposed unbundling into companies.
The members hoped that worthy Power Minister and His Excellency Governor SatyaPal Malik shall defer the proposed unbundling and in fact direct the administration to hold consultations with the stakeholders and evolve a better model for reorganisation of the department in tune with the requirements of the Power Sector.
