Kishtwar | June 6
The residents of Drubel in district Kishtwar today blocked National Highway (NH1B) and disrupted normal vehicular movement for whole day in protest against the transfer of a teacher from Government High School Drubel in Chatru area of Kishtwar.
Sources informed News Agency of Kashmir that hundreds of villagers from this far-flung area of district Kishtwar today came on roads and disrupted normal vehicular movement for more than eight hours. They were protesting against the transfer of teacher, Sheikh Noor Hussain, who has served in the school for the last 27 years.
"This is for the first time in the history of Kishtwar district that the villagers have staged protest not for ration, water and electricity supply but for the retention of a government teacher who served in Government High School Drubel for 27 years," maintained sources.
Sources informed that the teacher had received "Best Teacher Award" from former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam in 2005 for his contribution in promotion of education in far-flung area of Kishtwar.
Reports added that the villagers were demanding retention of Sheikh Noor Hussian in the school and alleged that he has been transferred on the directions of Minister of State for Education G M Saroori.
"The Minister has already made several attempts to disturb education system in the area. Even the funds allocated for the construction of school buildings and infrastructure were being deliberately diverted to other projects. The Minister has deliberately done this because he feared that the people of this area would not cast vote in his favour," alleged one of the protestors while talking to News Agency of Kashmir.
The protestors warned that if the education department did not revoke his transfer orders, the villagers would intensify their agitation soon.
