| Workshop of PTC's, News Chiefs of Prasar Bharti Begins today | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 6 Three day workshop of Prasar Bharti Part time Correspondents (PTC) began here this morning with a call to use the electronic media to reflect the aspirations of the people at the grass root level besides programming the policies and programmes of the government in real perspective. 22 district correspondents, News Heads of all India Radio and Doordarshan and News Editors from both the organizations of the state are participating in the said workshop. The workshop will provide an opportunity for these correspondents to discuss the changing scenario of broadcasting and also learn the new techniques being adopted for transmitting and disseminating the news. The workshop was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Water Resources Prof. Saifuddin Soz. Addressing the inaugurate session, the Minister while hailing the role of official electronic media particularly radio and Doordarshan during the last eighteen years of turmoil urged the journalists of use their pen judiciously so that a fair and balanced coverage of events and their analysis is ensured in the larger interests of the society. He said that the pen is mightier than the sword hence its proper use can built a society which will be richer in the art and an overall development. He however, regretted that the work of Doordarshan and Radio employees for these eighteen years of turmoil has not been properly recognized and revived. In this remarks the J&K Minister for Social Welfare, Abdul Gani Vakil stressed the need to focus on evolutionary steps taken by the coalition government in infrastructure development in the state. He said that the massive developmental works started by the government should be highlighted and the district correspondents should provide a feed back how the people reacted to these development projects. In this address, the Minister for Rural Development, Mula Ram emphasized the need to highlight National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and other flagship programmes and said that the recently Bharat Nigam Public information Campaign at Ganderbal has provided a big opportunity for the people to know about the developmental schemes started for their welfare. In his Presidential address the Director General (News), All India Radio Dr. P.K. Bandopaydaya asserted that objective of balanced and fair coverage of news events will remain the focus of news programmes. He assured that the genuine demands and problems faced by the employees of the Prasar Bharti will be looked into favorably. The Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University and noted intellectual and academician Dr. Riyaz Punjabi underlined the need to highlight the problems of infrastructure at primary level. The Director Information, Zaffar Ahmed who was the special guest also addressed the workshop. |
