| Paid darshan may go by June 17 | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 6 Following pressure and criticism from various social and religious organizations, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has constituted a three member panel for reviewing the priority darshan system and has also promised to make a final decision by June 17. According to an official spokesman, Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, in his capacity as Chairman SMVDSB, today ordered constitution of a 3-member committee to look into the operational aspects of this system. The Committee will submit its report and recommendations to the Chairman by June 17 for final decision. The members of the Committee are Lt. General (Retd) L P Sadhotra, Member SMVDSB, Dr N K Bansal, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Pandit Gopal Shastri, Head Pujari, SMVDSB. Briefing about this decision, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Dr Arun Kumar said that the terms of reference for the Committee would be, inter alia, to suggest measures to tighten the existing system of priority darshans so that the system is rendered minimally prone to corruption and misuse; to recommend measures to facilitate special category of persons belonging to various organizations connected with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board including Security Forces, donors and regular devotees so that they continue to feel part of the SMVDSB family and to recommend any other measures to make the overall experience of darshans pleasant and religiously uplifting. About the new system, the Board has already clarified that given the average inflow of about 30,000 pilgrims a day, the SF personnel used to get 1000 to 1500 priority slips for them and their immediate family members. Under the new system, the same number of priorities is being issued, free to SF personnel on showing identity cards but to discourage other pilgrims who for some reasons want to have an out of queue darshan by paying Rs 200, Dr Kumar added. |
