House Committee on environment visits Leh
Study report with suggestions to be presented soon: Ashok Sharma

Leh, August 31 – House Committee of State Legislation Council on environment headed by MLC Mr. Ashok Sharma arrived here today to study the areas for which measures are required to be taken for maintenance of environment and preservation of water bodies and green spots. The Committee would also ascertain the hazards created by recent incessant rains and floods in Ladakh region creating threat to the maintenance of eco and environmental balance. The Committee soon after its arrival at Leh had a meeting with local environments, NGOs, experts and concerned departmental functionaries to have first hand information about the environmental maintenance needs.
The Committee also interacted with general public including agriculturists, animal rearers and others to get background of their needs and requirements in the over all scenario of preserving the environment of the area.
The Committee is schedule to visit various areas and study the problems to evolve strategies for taking befitting measures in this regard.
Speaking to the representative of Information Department at Leh and giving these details Mr. Ashok Sharma said that the House Committee would study in detail environment maintenance needs in various areas of the state and come up with a comprehensive report alongwith recommendations and suggestions for prevention and conservation of eco system in the state.
He said the committee will also visit other areas of the state in due course of time, have interaction with local people, experts an study itself all aspects pertaining to the subject.
