| Education must for peace, development: Tarigami | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 7 State Secretary CPI (M) and MLA, M.Y.Tarigami has said that there can be no lasting peace and social development without education in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. While addressing a convention organized by Zilla Saksharta Committee Anantnag at Kulgam today, Tarigami said that a lot has been achieved under the scheme Total Literacy Mission (TLC) with support of volunteers in particular and community in general. He appreciated the volunteers for their role to galvanize entire community into believing that learning must be an integral part of their lives to create and build an environment conducive to learning by accessing communities through their cultural roots and traditions. He asked the volunteers to increase their efforts in spreading the message of education in every village so that all the persons in the age group of 15-35 are made functional literate. Tarigami demanded that the state and the Central Govt. should put in more concerted efforts and allocate adequate budget to run this programme in an efficient manner. He stressed for an early implementation of the IInd phase of Adult Education including Post Literacy Programme and Jan Shiksha Sansthan. He demanded that the volunteers be encouraged and provided with financial assistance to run these programmes. Tarigami urged upon the Govt. to increase the number of State Resource Centres and also their infrastructure and resource facilities to enable them to play the role of catalytic agents in adult education. |
