| Dogri language is not given due place, it deserve: DS | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 7 Dogri Sanstha (DS), office bearers have expressed their anguish and concern over the step-motherly treatment being meted out to Dogri language in the state. The members in the meeting were highly perturbed by recent notification of the state govt for recruitment of lecturers in schools where only one post of lecturer has been advertised. Members have felt that the Govt should try to encourage its regional languages as Dogri being the second major language of the state is not being given place that it deserves. Students often complain that schools in the rural areas do not have teachers to teach Dogri language as a subject are compelled and constrained to take other subjects because of non availability of teachers. Of more than two hundred schools in the Dogri speaking area of the state less than 10% have provision for teaching Dogri. The students who pass out from schools with Dogri as a subject are the ones who would opt for Dogri colleges. By not making arrangements for teaching of Dogri in the schools the Govt., is acting as a hurdle in the growth and promotion of Dogri language and literature. The Govt. has opened new Colleges all over the state and there are more than 15 colleges in the Dogri speaking region of the state. The callousness of govt towards the language can be gauged by the fact that not in a single Dogri lecture has been provided and no provision has been made for introduction of Dogri as a subject in these colleges. The office bearers of Sanstha resolved in the meeting that without any further delay the subject of Dogri must be introduced in all newly opened Colleges Dogri speaking areas; Govt should immediately amend its notification advertising posts of lecturers in schools’ so that the students who aspire to take Dogri as a subject do not get dejected. |
