Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 7 With the holding of under-16 boys singles final, the five-day long J&K Open Badminton Tournament organized by Super Sonic Badminton Club concluded today at Indoor Complex of the M A Stadium, here. Abhijit Singh won the final beating Aman in straight sets. In the prize distribution function, president Bar Association of Jammu was chief guest who gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up of various age groups in both boys and girls sections. Former secretary of the organizing club, Bakhtawar Singh was guest of honour. The Club also felicitated the veteran player, Durga Dass Mangotra, who still knocks at the courts, with Life Time Badminton Award for his sheer dedication towards the promotion of the game in the state. Those who played a key role in making the tournament a success being part of the organizing committee were R K Kotwal, Sat Pal Sharma, Romesh Sharma, Samir Vohra, Rishi Khurana, Vishal Dogra, Akash Kohli and Rajeev Gupta. In an attempt to encourage the upcoming players, consolation prizes were given to Sourab, Vikalp Arora, Ishan, Rahat, Vaishal, Sanchit, Falak, Janvi, Rakshan, Saksham, Osmi, Raghav, Ritik, Jasleen Kour and Nalin. Terming the event a grand success, the secretary of Super Sonic Badminton Club, Gurvinder Singh said, “we have succeeded in our attempt to provide the young shuttlers a chance to excel. A number of good boys and girls have been spotted by the Club while searching for the talent during the five-day long event.” “Holding separate competitions for stadium and non-stadium participants was aimed at giving equal opportunities to everyone among the beginners and upcoming shuttlers,” senior SAI coach, Sat Pal Sharma, who helped in making the event a success, told reporters. |
