| CM invites world golfers in Kashmir | | 3rd Inter-State Golf Tournament | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 8 With the improvement and upgradation of golf courses at Pahalgam and Gulmarg and setting up of a new golf course at Sidhra in Jammu the game will get impetus in the State. This was stated by the Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S K Sinha while interacting with the mediamen on the sidelines of the 3rd Inter-State Golf Tournament between Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar at Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC) here today. Governor hoped that more golfers would come to the Valley and participate in the golf tournaments. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was also present at the RSGC, said, “Kashmir with breathtaking natural beauty, soothing climate and world class golf course has a great scope for promotion of golf tourism”. The Chief Minister said that Kashmir has vast scope for golfing and one could play golf here for about seven months a year because of the pleasant weather. Referring to the RSGC, Azad said that it is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world located in the Zabarwan foothills with superb ambience. He invited golfers from across the world to come and play golf in Kashmir. He said that golf tournaments can promote tourism in a big way. He expressed his gratitude to the Governor for starting Inter-State Golf Tournament last year and this is the third event in the series. He emphasized the need for organizing similar tournaments with other states of the country. Former Chief Minister and admirer of the game of golf, Dr Farooq Abdullah stressed on the need for promotion of golf in the State so that local youth also get opportunity to play the sport at national and international level. He complimented the Governor and the Chief Minister for promoting golf in the State. The participants from Bihar described RSGC as a superb golf course where every golfer would cherish to play. |
