| Farmers unhappy over construction of protective bund along IB | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 Large number of border residents and farmers are not happy with the construction of the protective bund near the barbed fencing along the International border in Jammu region. The farmers have been raising their concerns during routine meetings with the BSF authorities but in vain as authorities are silently sleeping ignoring their plight. Recently when a high level panel of Parliamentarians visited the area the farmers raised the issue of compensation in front of them and were promised due compensation. It may be mentioned that the decision to raise the protective bund behind the barbed fencing was taken by the BSF after the recent incident of infiltration bid in the Samba sector. The foiled infiltration bid has already alerted BSF and besides, raising protective bund, the BSF authorities has also decided to ground the already constructed protective bund ahead of the barbed fencing to maintain strict vigil and improve line of sight for better vigil. Farmers affected by the construction of the protective bund are worried and have once again reminded the state and the centre government to pay them due compensation in lieu of occupying their land. Farmers whose land holdings have been used by the BSF are crying foul. "We have been hearing reports that the government had decided to shift the barbed fencing on the zero line to allow farmers to cultivate their land but the reveres is happening in our case, Rattan Lal, a farmer said urging local administration to expedite paper work so that they can claim due compensation. Ram Kumar another farmer said, the BSF authorities have started raising protective bund inside the Indian territory and taking over control of more agricultural land without paying them any compensation ."We are still waiting for the compensation promised to us by the government, large number of farmers said demanding compensation package for those farmers whose land has also come under BSF plan of raising protective bund. "No one is worried about our plight, we are living in misery yet no government authority forwarded our demand to the higher authorities for quick response", an ageing farmer Gul Dev Raj said. Another group of farmers whose land fall in the ‘no man's land’ demanded relaxation in the timing and urged BSF authorities to throw open the gates early in the morning to enable them to cultivate their fields. |
