| Baba Jitto being developed as major pilgrim tourist destination: Mula Ram | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 8 Jammu and Kashmir has formulated a project for developing revered Baba Jitto shrine in Chiri area as a major pilgrimage tourist destination. The project submitted for Central assistance, among other things includes, construction of an artificial lake in the vicinity of the Shrine. Minister for Rural Development and Panchyati Raj Mula Ram gave this information on Sunday while addressing a public meeting at Dharam Khu village in Mishriwala area of Jammu district. He also inspected the pace of work on the ongoing construction of various projects in the area. Highlighting the achievements of his government, Minister said that the policies of the government are directed towards removing the disparities between urban and rural areas. He said massive development activities have been set in simultaneously across the state. Referring to various schemes launched in the state, Minister said the construction of massive road network in the state has resulted in improved trade and commerce activities within different parts of the state. He said the development activities taken up over last half decade have all together changed the profile of the state with often complained disparities among various parts fast disappearing. He said increased road connectivity coupled with availability of education of every level at desirable distances have set in the stage for having competitive literacy rate in the state. ‘No one could dispute the fact that during past few years the expansion, both at school and higher education level was unprecedented in the 60-year history of Jammu & Kashmir’, Mula Ram added. He said while there were only 35-degree colleges in the State for 56 years, during the past four years as many as 40 new degree colleges had been opened across the State. With the expansion of the education facilities, the higher and quality education has been taken out of the limits of big cities and towns to the doorsteps of even remotest areas of the State, Minister added. He said the expansion had been more massive at Primary, elementary, Secondary and Higher Secondary levels with a target of providing facilities of education up to Higher Secondary level within 3 kilometer area, including ensured availability of primary school after every kilometer. The expansion at Higher education level witnessed over these years has also been equally impressive, as today degree colleges have been opened in almost all major towns of the state, Mula Ram added. He said availability of road accesses has also left great impact on other activities including better enrollment in schools and a steep rise in living standard especially in rural areas. He said increased road connectivity coupled with availability of education at every level at desirable distances has set the stage for having competitive literacy rate in the state. |
