Natrang’s children theatre workshop begins today

The silver jubilee children’s theatre workshop-2008 one of the major children’s event Natrang in 25 years is starting from tomorrow at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu. This was disclosed here today by the Natrang director, Balwant Thakur in a press conference held at Natrang Theatre, Jammu. Natrang which took the initiative of introducing children theatre in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is now credited for being the most sought after theatre destination of children’s creative happenings. This thirty one day unique training programme is being organized by Natrang in collaboration with north zone culture centre, Patiala and is conducted by Ashish Nijhawan of national school of drama, New Delhi who has just returned from China after having specialized training in theatre. Balwant Thakur further said that parents must avail this rarest opportunity being provided by workshop will be the production of a major English play which will go a long way in improving the spoken English, diction and expression of the participants. Among the main focused areas of the training programme will include the development of personality of the child through the various developed techniques of theatre. Theatre internationally has acquired a prime importance in the sphere of human development and is being used as a weapon to confidence building and strengthening of the inner talents of the children.
Drama is one of the arts through the practice of which children may grow and mature as human beings. Through the creative aspect of dramatic work children may bring to birth to birth that which is original (to them) from material which is old; through its interpretative aspect they may grow in sympathetic and understanding of the world and of people by contact with good and suitable plays. Both aspects involve the whole person, body, mind, emotions, spirit; both are ultimately one; both may be vital to the development of the children, he added.
Prominent among others who addressed the press conference included Anil Tikkoo, senior artist/director of Natrang.
