| Recruitment of Kashmiri Muslims in Army | | | | The massive response by the Kashmiri youth as well as Muslims in their majority areas in Jammu region to the army recruitment drive is a highly welcomed development. Heavy turn out of the youth from the areas infested with terrorism, where large number of unemployed youth are roped into militancy in the past, for appearing in the screening test for recruitment in the Indian Army has highly encouraged the authorities in the civil administration as well the armed forces. Kupwara, facing Pakistan occupied Kashmir's capital Muzaffaradab, which has been the scene of a large number of encounters between the security forces and the militants in the past, witnessed massive response to the army recruitment rallies, with a very large number of youth turning up for the same. Does this show new winds of change blowing in he area and is it a pointer to the keenness of the Kashmiri youth, hitherto under the influence of jehadis, to avail of the opportunity to shun the path of violence against the innocents and indulging in acts of sabotage and subversion against their own people on the bidding of the enemies of the country, to join the country's security forces to take on the terrorists and protect the people against the gun wielding mercenaries and merchants of destruction and devastation? Encouraged by the heavy response the high officers in the army are planning to organize many more recruitment rallies in the area along LoC, to recruit the youth. According to the reports for every single vacancy in the force as many as 150 aspirants are coming forward. In the recruitment camps held in Chhamkot, Vhokibal and Tregham area as many as 1643 youth are reported to have come forward for selection to 183 posts. Of course, there will be a tendency among certain elements to call for over caution to ensure that no undeserving element, having sympathy at heart with the militants and even acting as their agent seeking to infiltrate into our Armed Forces, to ultimately act as enemy's sepoy and at some crucial stage indulge in act of sabotage. However the mechanism and safeguards against these possibilities can take care of these apprehensions and concerns. There is no need to fear ones own shadow and smell a saboteur in ever Muslim Kashmiri youth coming forward to join country's defense forces. There is no denying the fact that there have been cases of enemy's moles in our security forces and even in our intelligence network. But these exceptions are found in the case of persons belonging to the communities, which can be least suspected of having any links with the Islamic jehadis and even a few high ranking officers in the Armed Forces have deserted and played the dame of country's enemies, for monitory considerations. In the light of this, suspicion of a particular community and those belonging to a particular area is least justified. Notwithstanding the need for utmost caution and vigil, we cannot help repose faith in the members of all the communities, including the one, a large number of people from whom are found to be involved in anti country activities. Any general distrust of a particular community will only lead to their over all alienation from the national mainstream. |
