| Vakil to join PDP | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 10 Mohammad Yaqoob Vakil, a former confidante of Hurriyat Conference Chairman Umer Farooq, is set to join People's Democratic Party (PDP), a partner in Congress-led coalition in Jammu and Kashmir. "Vakil will join the PDP tomorrow. The party is likely to call a press conference in this regard," PDP sources told PTI here. Vakil, who was ousted from Farooq's Awami Action Committee (AAC) two years ago for anti-party activities, met with PDP leaders, including party President Mehbooba Mufti today, they said. "It was basically a show of strength and support base in downtown city by Vakil. Some prominent citizens from the old city accompanied the former separatist leader during the meeting," the sources said. Vakil will join the PDP along with his supporters and disband the political outfit, Shaher-e-Khas Welfare Committee, he had formed after his ouster from the AAC. Vakil, who was also a close confidante of slain Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq likely to be PDP candidate from either Khanyar or Edigah assembly constituency in the downtown city in the forthcoming assembly elections which are due in October this year. |
