| Assembly elections in J-K will not be free and fair: SP | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 10 Samajwadi Party (SP) today apprehended that the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would not be held in free and fair manner in view of the moves made by the government to "gain political mileage". "There is every apprehension that the government would resort to malpractices and rigging in the forthcoming assembly elections in view of its administrative steps like filing of vacancies and posting of blue eyed officers on key posts in the state," president of state unit of SP Sheikh Abdul Rehman claimed while talking to reporters. The government has banned the process of filling up of 70,000 vacancies in different departments in 2000. But Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad lifted this ban and directed the process of filling of vacancies when elections are just a matter of three months away, he alleged. Rehman said the manner in which B R Kundal was made to resign as chief secretary and inducted into the cabinet also speaks volumes about the designs of the government. He also alleged that elections have never been held in fair and transparent manner in Jammu and Kashmir in last sixty years, except in 1977. Reman said SP would be fielding candidates at several assembly seats in the state. |
