| J&K all set to join country's developed states: Azad | | Equitable resource distribution to ensure progress across State :CM | | Early Times Reporter Doda | June 10 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Tuesday said that the sound basis laid by his government during the preceding three years for progress would soon see Jammu and Kashmir emerging among the frontline states of the country in terms of development. The Chief Minister was addressing large public meetings at Jora Upper, Kandhote and Kilhotran in Doda district before inaugurating the classes in the newly set up degree college at Kilhotran. He visited classrooms and interacted with students. He also inaugurated the upgraded higher secondary school at Kandhote. He was given rousing reception on his arrival at the three places where people chanted welcome slogans. Minister for Higher Education, Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for School Education, G. M. Saroori, MP, Lal Singh and MLC Muhammad Sharief Niaz were also present. Azad said that he is single-mindedly pursuing his agenda for all round development of the State, resulting in the expansion and up-gradation of civic amenities and public utility services across towns and villages. The development process, he said, has been, for the first time, taken to remote areas and neglected pockets that, more or less, remained out of the development strategy of governments in the past. He said he believes in equal distribution of resources to ensure equitable progress. The Chief Minister said that the hallmark of his government is justice with all regions and people irrespective of which political ideology they belong to. He said development projects are being launched wherever needed and without people having to run from pillar to post for amenities and services. The development measures taken by him are changing the state's economic landscape especially with major projects coming up in a short timeframe, he said adding projects that took decades to complete are now through in a year or two. He said the new culture of working in double and triple shifts has yielded excellent results and those who earlier expressed cynicism over the idea are now eating their own words. Azad said that providing education, healthcare, road connectivity, power and drinking water facilities to people across the State is the priority with his government. He said with liberal assistance from the centre, the government is executing the plan to connect all villages with roads in the next four years. Similarly, he said, power and drinking water facilities are also being provided to all village habitations. J&K is in for big transformation on the rural front, he said and urged people to see and appreciate the pace and extent of development made during the past about three years. The Chief Minister said that the achievements made in the education sector alone are unprecedented. He said thousands of primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools were opened and upgraded throughout the State. The higher education also witnessed massive expansion. He said against the 35 degree colleges set up in 56 years after independence, the present government opened 40 new colleges in just four years. He said the reach of higher education has been extended to remote areas enabling the youth to pursue college education at doorstep. Likewise, he said, the university education has been expanded with opening of new university campuses at Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Kargil, Leh, Bhadarwah, Poonch, Kathua and Udhampur in addition to the already existing two main universities at Srinagar and Jammu. He said three other full-fledged universities were set up by religious trusts in the non-governmental sector. The government also opened satellite campuses at Kishtwar, Reasi, Billawar and Doda, he added. Azad cautioned people against elements trying to draw a wedge between them in the name of region, religion, community and caste. He asked them to give a befitting reply to the divisive forces by frustrating their designs. He said elections being round the corner, different parties and groups would try to politicize issues. He stressed on the need to watch out against such people. He sought people's cooperation for his war against corruption. Referring to ongoing development schemes in the area, the Chief Minister said that Rs. 50 crore Kandi canal is being constructed which would come up as the biggest irrigation canal in the three districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. The canal, he said, would bring about revolution in agriculture right from Thathri to Bhella. He said the land in the area is fertile and irrigation facility would ensure multiple cropping and increase in production. He said work is being started on both ends of the canal to ensure its early completion. Minister for Higher Education, Gulchain Singh Charak congratulated the people of Kilhotran on opening of the degree college in the area and asked students to take benefit of the facility. He also highlighted the historic initiatives taken by the Azad government in various sectors of economy.. Minister of State for School Education, G. M. Saroori said that expansion of school and college education has specifically benefited students in remote areas where this facility has been now provided at their doorsteps. He said the massive development works taken up by the Azad-led government do not find any comparison in the past 60 year's history of the State. MP, Lal Singh, in his speech, asked people to strengthen the hands of the government to ensure consolidation of its development initiatives. MLC, Muhammad Sharief Niaz also addressed the gathering. |
