| SRTC providing regular service to pilgrims, locals: GM | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 10 Due to sudden indefinite strike call given by the private transporters of the J&K State since June 9, 2008, alternate arrangements have been made by the J&K State Road Transport Corporation for the transportation of tourists/pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi at Katra and Mela Khirbhawani at Srinagar. A total of 150 buses were dispatched to Katra on June 9, 2008, total 80 buses were dispatched to Katra on June 10, 2008. About 10 vehicles were dispatched to Srinagar for Mela Khirbhawani, 51 vehicles were dispatched to Srinagar for carrying tourists on June 9 to June 10 and 10 buses were operated on city routes (Local Jammu). As per General Manager (Operations) JKSRTC, Jammu Interstate Division of J&K State Road Transport Corporation has a fleet of 100 operative vehicles functioning normally to cater the rush of esteemed passengers of different states of the country who visited J&K State for Pilgrimage purposes. J&K State Road Transport Corporation is also running its vehicles on district routes of the state via Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Bhaderwah, Mendhar, Kishtwar and Gandoh to meet the rush of passengers. Moreover, JKSRTC is providing sufficient number of trucks to the Food and Supplies Department for meeting the demand of essential commodities to different districts of the state. JKSRTC is on the job for providing transportation facility to the tourists/pilgrims for the whole day and night as well. About 15,000 pilgrims were carried for the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage at Katra uptill now, about 500 pilgrims for Mela Khirbhawani at Srinagar (Tulmula) and 1500 tourists for Srinagar. |
