| SC, ST & BC Dev Corporation working reviewed | | Extend loan benefits to BPL beneficiaries: Vakil | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 10 Minister for Social Welfare Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil impressed upon the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Development Corporation to extend the benefits of Bank tie-up scheme and Direct financing scheme to BPL beneficiaries for setting up economically viable self employment venture. Addressing a review meeting of J&K SC, ST & BC Development Corporation Ltd, here today the Minister stated that the corporation should work as a catalyst to create adequate income generating activities for the underprivileged. This would inturn facilitate socio-economic and educational upliftment of the deprived sections of society, he added. Impressing upon the officers to work with dedication for ameliorating the condition of socially and economically deprived sections the minister said that Social Welfare department functions for creation of equitable society where opportunities of development are justly distributed to all. He said that several initiatives for streamlining the promotional avenues of the department have been taken adding that interviews of Anganwari workers are going on to enhance working manpower. He hoped that the new recruits would infuse renewed vigor into the functioning of department. Managing Director J&K SC, ST & BC Development Corporation Ltd Mr. R. K Bhagat apprized the Minister about the working of the corporation and its achievements. He informed 23857 beneficiaries have been disbursed Rs. 12.40 crore as subsidy under Bank tie-up scheme, while Rs. 31.53 crore has been provided to 2026 beneficiaries under Direct Financing scheme so far. He informed that the corporation has submitted proposal to the tune of Rs. 13.61 crore to Apex Land Corporation for the year 2008-09. |
