| Baig announces Rs 2 cr for electrification of Gujjar bastis | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 10 Underlining the Government's resolve to work for equitable development of all sections and regions of the state, the Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig said that the developmental juggernaut unleashed by the government would fulfill aspirations of all the people especially those living in the remotest and farthest corners of the state. He was addressing at convention of Gujjar Welfare Forum at Bandipora on Tuesday. Appealing the people of the subcontinent to destroy the walls of hatred, Baig said that we share common culture, beliefs and history. He said that both countries spend a major chunk of their budget on defence, which would otherwise be utilized for developmental works and upliftment of the weaker sections of society. "A large number of people of subcontinent live below poverty line and have a sense of deprivation when it comes to the basic amenities and infrastructure", he added. While referring to the monumental and path breaking developmental process undertaken by the coalition government, Baig said within a short span of six years we have achieved what the previous regimes could not do in decades together. "We have restored peace with dignity for the people of the state, who were otherwise being subjected to certain draconian laws which had made the lives of the people a virtual hell", he maintained. Responding to the demands of the people, the Deputy Chief Minister announced Rs 2 crore for electrification of gujjar bastis of Bandipora and he also directed R&B authorities to immediately upgrade Sumbal-Khudar and Arigam-Chandaji road to provide better road facilities to the inhabitants of these areas. He also announced loans/scholarships for gujjar/pahari girls for pursuing education and other allied fields. He also inaugurated the Sheikh-ul-Alam suspension bridge, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs.2 crore. The bridge will connect Dewanbagh area of Barmulla with the Gulnar Park. |
