| Streamline power generation, distribution: House Committee to PDD | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 10 The House Committee of Legislative Council has directed the Power Development Department (PDD) to streamline planning and development policy to improve the power situation in the State. The Committee stressed on initiating long term and sustainable measures keeping in view the requirements. The House Committee met here today under the chairmanship of MLC Basharat Ahmed Bukhari and reviewed the overall power scenario in the State. The Committee emphasized the need for according priority to reach out the uncovered areas so that people of far-flung and inaccessible areas could also get the electricity facility. The Department should monitor the progress of all projects that have been forwarded to the Centre under different schemes and follow them vigorously for early clearance, the Committee maintained. For early repair of damaged transformers and other electric equipments, the Committee directed the department to explore possibilities to establish one workshop in each district. Presently these workshops are available only in major towns and it gets lot of time to repair the damaged gadgets which are being brought from other parts of the State and people suffer numerous inconvenience, the Committee asserted. In order to keep a check on the power theft, the Committee suggested for installing electric meters in all areas and directed that all metered areas should get uninterrupted power supply. Commissioner/Secretary PDD Sandeep Naik briefed the Committee about various steps taken by the department for up gradation of existing infrastructure and improving the power position in the State. |
