| Infiltration level has risen in recent weeks; 400 ultras camping at launching pads | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 10 Groups of militants have sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir from across the LOC in recent days for giving teeth to the ongoing jehad in the state. Official sources today said that in recent days small groups of militants infiltrated from across Kupwara, Tangdhar, Keran, Poonch and Rajouri. These groups managed to cross into Jammu and Kashmir even after more than 15 infiltration bids were foiled by the troops guarding the border in which more than five infiltrators were killed. The sources said that more than 400 militants continue to camp on the launching pads across Kupwara, Poonch and Rajouri sectors and those who succeed in infiltrating were the part of these militant groups. A senior police officer said that those who have infiltrated in recent weeks into Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to lie low. Possibly they were planning to strike when the poll process assumed heat in the state. The fresh infiltrators have been equipped with latest weapons and ammunition. He said these groups of militants have been guided to the hideouts already established by their field commanders in various parts of the state. He said that they have been asked to target vital installations, polling booths and pre-poll rallies but not before the poll schedule was announced. Agencies across the border, providing moral and material assistance to the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir, have given another direction to the ultras that they should start creating scare among people after the announcement of the poll schedule so that there was very poor percentage of polling which could prevent the Government and the mainstream political parties from claiming that peace and normalcy had returned to the state. It is in this connection that the state police authorities have requested the Union Home Ministry to sanction deployment of about 30 additional companies of paramilitary forces for preventing militants from wrecking the ensuing Assembly election in the state. In addition to this, the central and state intelligence agencies network has been further strengthened for keeping a strict watch on the movement and plans of militants and for intercepting their phone and wireless communications. |
