| J&K to implement Panchayati Raj, | | Reserve 33 percent seats for women | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 11 Jammu and Kashmir government today said it was keen to implement Panchayati raj in the state and reserve 33 percent seats to women in the civic bodies. "Government is determined to implement Panchayati raj in the state, where 33 percent seats would be reserved for women representatives," Rural Development Minister Mula Ram said addressing a public meeting at Dhara, one of the remotest villages here. He said government was also planning to provide road connectivity to each village in the state by 2012, adding work was apace on Faqir Gujri-Dhara road at a cost of Rs 1.48 crore. About welfare scheme launched with central government, Mula Ram said Rs 37,500 would be provided to those living in hilly areas for construction of low cost houses and Rs 35,000 to those living in plains under Indira Awaz Yojna. He said awareness camps would be conducted in different parts of the state regarding implementation of NREGA (National Rural Employment Gurantee Act), a centrally sponsored scheme, and rate of wages prescribed under it would be enhanced to Rs 100. Meanwhile, consumer affairs and public distribution Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din said at the meeting that 1.10 lakh employment avenues including 40,000 casual labourers were being created for youth within two months. Minister of state for revenue and finance Aijaz Ahmad Khan, who was also present at the occasion, said government has adopted a comprehensive policy to provide opportunities of development to all sections of society in every area. |
