| PDP launches membership drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | AUGUST 31 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) launched membership drive in the state from today. The party president Mehbooba Mufti launched drive for Kashmir valley at a simple function held at Srinagar while for Jammu province, the drive was launched by Minister of Public Health Engineering, Irrigation Flood Control, Qazi Mohammed Afzal at Party Office here. A large number of the senior party leaders, workers and activists and media persons were present. Speaking on the occasion, Qazi reminded workers of party’s, people friendly policies and programmes and asked them to take these programmes to people at their doorsteps. He said during the campaign more and more people should be drought in the party fold but at the same time make it sure that no anti- national or anti-social element may creep in, taking benefit of the membership derive, Qazi hoped that target for enrolment of new members as fixed by the party chief for this year may exceed as heavy response of the people for enrolment was coming from all sides. Referring to the on-going peace process initiated by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Minister said that peace process has started yielding good dividends. He said that with coming down of reports of violence and militancy in the state tourism started picked up as this year a large number of tourists from all parts of the country came to valley for exploring new places of tourism, “ People who opposed PDP in very beginning are now repenting over their folly” Qazi added. Earlier, S Manjit Singh who came here along with Qazi Afzal for the first time after his re-induction in the cabinet Ghulam Nabi Azad was given rousing reception at the party head office.
