| NSSO organizes 3-day Regional Training Conference | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 11 National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) under Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, in collaboration with Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Government of Jammu and Kashmir is organizing, a three day Regional Training Conference on NSS 65th Round at Jammu from 11.6.2008 to 13.06.2008. NSS 65th Round is earmarked for the survey on "Domestic Tourism", "Housing Condition" and "Urban Slums". This is for the first time that NSSO has taken up a comprehensive survey on Domestic Tourism that the information generated through it would be used by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India to prepare tourism satellite account. Information on housing conditions aims at studying the structural aspects of dwelling units and basic housing amenities such as drinking water, bathrooms, sewerage, latrine, lighting etc. available to them. Similarly the collection of data on urban slums, whether notified and non-notified, will reveal the current status and changes in the conditions of slum areas. Survey will cover whole of the country except the interior villages of Nagaland and the inaccessible areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. For the state of Jammu and Kashmir, all the districts of the state will be covered and a representative sample of households and urban slums will be selected for canvassing the schedules of enquiries. Regional Training Conference started today with the welcome address by Deputy Director General, NSSO (FOD), Jammu Mr. Deepak Rastogi. He intimated that the NSSO has been conducting nation wide survey on various Socio-Economic (SE) aspects since 1950. These surveys are conducted in the form of rounds and 63 rounds have already been completed. Number of sample villages and urban blocks in J&K State will be 720. He emphasized upon the quality of data and requested the participants to ensure that the data collected by them is accurate and reliable. Joint Director, J & K Government, Mr. Joginder Paul who came from Srinagar to attend this conference emphasized upon the need for better coordination of State and Central Statistical agencies. Joint Director, DES, Jammu Mrs. Satvir Kaur provided all support and cooperation for organizing the conference. In his inaugural address, Dy. Director General from the Survey Design and Research Division of NSSO, Kolkota Mr. G.C Manna highlighted the role of NSS in developing a sound statistical data base for the use by planners and policy makers, researchers and various other agencies at the national and international levels. Joint Director, NSSO (FOD), Jammu Mr. Kishore Kumar presented the vote of thanks. |
