| Mela kheer bhawani celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 11 Though several hundred Kashmiri pandits today celebrated annual festival and attended Mela Kheer Bhawani on the occasion of Jesht Ashtami at the replica of Kheer Bhawani temple in Jammu but the mood was not upbeat among displaced community members as majority of them failed to participate in the festival in Tulla Mulla, on the outskirts of Srinagar, due to ongoing transporters strike across the state. Compared to previous years the presence of Kashmiri pandit devotees recorded a marginal decline in Jammu as transport strike played spoil sport.Krishan Koul, a devout Kashmir pandit had made up his mind after long persuasion by his wife to visit Tulla Mulla but could not visit the temple due to transports strike.He offered prayers at the replica of the Kheer bhawani in Jammu hoping to visit the temple next year.Large number of Kashmir pandits who live near by Kheer bhawani templ ein Jammu and neighboring areas thronged the temple since early morning but those coming from far away places faced hardships and had to arrange hired vehicles to reach the temple in view of the strike. Despite this both the temples in Srinagar and Jammu were tastefully decorated to welcome the devotees. A Maha Yagya was performed on the occasion. Large number of devotees were present to offer 'purna ahuti' at both the temple shrines. Elaborate arrangements were made by the local administration keeping in view presence of large number of devotees from Jammu. Like previous years local muslims were present in the temple premises to welcome their Kashmiri brothers visiting Kashmir after a long time and offered them all possible help to ensure their comfortable stay.After performing puja the Kashmir pandits spend some time in the precincts of the Tulla Mulla temple and remembered good old times praying for the peace and prosperity in the state. |
