| JU says no to polythene | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 12 Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof. Amitabh Mattoo today declared the University Campus as polythene issuing strictures to avoid bringing the plastic bags in the premises of the premier educational institution. VC issued the orders at the launching of 'drive Green' in the Campus for its Beautification. The launching of the green drive was an initiative of Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping. The launching of the green drive was attended by all senior officials of the University including Dean Academic Affairs, Rectors, Deans, Heads, Coordinator Campuses, Faculty members, members of the non-teaching staff, staff of the Department of Arboriculture and Landscaping and Research Scholars of various Departments were present at the function. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo said that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era. "This is time when communities will have to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and the ways to reduce them," he said and added that it is important to give human face to environmental issues and empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development. Prof. Mattoo declared that University of Jammu shall henceforth be a polythene free zone. He urged upon all the stakeholders including the faculty, staff, students, scholars and visitors to avoid bringing polythene bags within the University Campus. |
