| BCFI elects new body, demand amendment in Reservation Act | | | JAMMU AUG-31- Backward Classes Federation of India (BCFI) in its general meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Ashok Basotra Convenor has elected new office bearers with Nek Ram as it President and K C Raina as Senior Vice President. The committee will have eight Vice Presidents, two General Secretaries, two Joint Secretaries and two organizing secretaries besides other office bearers. H L Verma has been elected as spokesman of the Federation. The newly elected members were administered oath by Ashok Basotra and pledged to work for implementation of 27 per cent reservation to backward classes and upliftment and betterment of the backward caste in the State. The newly elected President Nek Ram has strongly condemned the alliance government of its failure to implement 27 per cent reservation to socially and educationally backward classes in the state and described the Reservation Act and Rules detrimental to the interests of the backward classes. On this occasion, the Federation also passed resolutions calling upon the government to implement 27 per cent reservation for socially and educationally backward classes on the basis of caste as recommended by the Mandal Commission as also sought amendment in section 2 (O) of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act 2004 and SRO 294 of October 2005.
