BDC elections - Ditched the BJP
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal10/26/2019 9:52:38 PM
When there is hue and cry of political parties that they have done a lot for common man and their decision are for the betterment of public, ultimate recognition of such claims is viewed through the process where people have to give their verdict, it is the elections in the democratic set up. After abrogation of Article 370, 35A and downgrading the status of the Jammu and Kashmir State to Union Territories by BJP ruled government at the centre, the BDC elections were a mandate to give their opinion on these decisions by the ground level representation of people through their elected Panchs and Sarpanchs in the Panchayati Raj System. The BJP Government very artfully announced these elections on party basis, with a motive to pounce upon the entire BDC's in the State and taking it an opportunity, at a time when the political voices were shackled in the state and except BJP leaders others were facing fear psychosis of being put behind the bar or to be put in house arrest. At the same the main stream political party's i.e. Congress, National Conference and PDP boycotting the elections gave additional pound of flesh in the BJP plates and carried them to fool's paradise of sweeping the BDC elections across the State and were to give a message to the entire country that BJP stand fully accepted in the State for its daring decisions of abrogation of Article 370, 35A and re-organizing the State into two Union Territories.
Now when the cat of BDC elections is out of the bag, the space has been created to comment upon the controversial decisions on J&K by the BJP Government through the specks of the results of these elections that have placed the BJP at a shameful platter and have exposed it for its un-thoughtful decisions and in the way these were super imposed by telling lie of severe attacks by the Pakistan during Amarnath Yatra, pressing a panic button in the State and then coming forth with its dictatorial decisions of Abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, when the petitions on the same were under legal scrutiny with the Apex Court, thus showing little regards for the Apex Court, Yet the petitions challenging the validity of the provisions of Article 370 abrogated by the central government, on August 5, and Article 35A is on hearing bench of 5-Judges Constitution Bench which is hearing the Kashmir matter.
The results of BDC elections also become matter of concern on the aspect that none from Jammuites condemned the Abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A but on the other celebrated its bye bye. Only voices from Valley were against this decision. Jammuites just commented why the Jammu region has been kept at the mercy of same Kashmir leadership against whom, the Jammuites are always speaking and for their these voices Jammu based leaders other than BJP suffered house detentions by the proud and egoistic BJP Government. The Jammu and Kashmir State has 307 Blocks across the state and some declared un-opposed, hence elections in 283 Blocks were held to elect their Chairman. The results finding much space in print media speaks that of the 307 Blocks, the BJP performed very poor and only 81 (Just 26 per cent) BDC Chairman could muster their success on BJP tickets and rest 229 (74 per cent) Blocks have out rightly rejected the BJP and this can be taken as rejection of BJP's various decisions in the State and is a conclusion that these are not people friendly decisions. Moreover this 26 per cent success also owes to the boycott of BDC elections by main stream political parties' i.e. Congress, NC and PDP. Had these parties in fray BJP would have come up in these elections with big zero (Leh an exception).
On the State scenario Jammu Division have 148 Blocks, Kashmir Division have 128 and Ladakh 31 Blocks. BJP could win only 52 from Jammu Division, 18 from Kashmir Division and 11 from Ladaks Division. This speaks that BJP has been rejected largely from all the three divisions including Ladakh. The position of BJP is also at the low ebb in all the districts of Jammu region. The Jammu region have total tally of 148 Blocks and BJP could register its win only in 52 Blocks i.e. 35 Per cent and rest hit by independent candidate (including JKNPP). The traverse on the pages of all the districts in Jammu region apprise us that Kathua has 19 Blocks, BJP winning 7 independent 6, Samba - 9 Blocks, BJP 4, Independent 5, Jammu - 20, BJP 9 Independent 11, Rajouri - 19, BJP 8, Independent 11, Poonch - 11, all won by Independent, Reasi - 12, BJP just 4 and rest 8 Independent, Ramban - 11, BJP just 2 rest 9 Independent, Doda - 17 Blocks, BJP just 5 rest 12 by Independent, Kishwar - 13, BJP 7 and rest 6 by Independent. Udhampur District has shown BJP its face and acceptability in the public. Of the 17 Blocks, it is the JKNPP that has pocketed eight Blocks instead of having no elected MLA in 2014 elections, Independent has siphoned five Blocks and BJP has to content with just four Blocks. It was Udhampur that was on hot roll and many BJP state stalwarts visited during campaigning. The Blocks pocketed by the BJP are not packed fully by the acceptance of ideology or BJP leadership but mainly due to the reason of boycott by the Congress, NC and PDP, otherwise, the results from these Blocks would have been different. Earlier also in majority the BJP was rejected by the people in urban local body elections but by intricate measures it succeeded in installation of its Presidents. It is more interesting that in the previous Assembly BJP was having 25 MLAs across Jammu region, two sitting MPs one at powerful position of PMO and Rajya Sabha Member all are from BJP. The BJP was sharing power in the dissolved assembly. We can say that Jammu was saffornised by the BJP but recent results of BDC are alarming bells for BJP and people have realized that their hollow slogans, fake promises and their discriminatory attitude towards Jammuites is not acceptable any more. It is clear indicators that people in large have resentment and reservations about abrogation of the Articles 370 and 35A as well as Reorganization of the State is not acceptable to the people. Various announcements by the central governments to woo the voters of the valley have no effect on the Kashmiri minds and this is not a healthy sign to usher in an era of development and peaceful environ in the State.
Concluding we can say that BJP has lost its all charisma in J&K and it require introspection rather than to have day dreams of getting any political representation in coming elections that seems nowhere in picture. Its erosion from the State is well on cards and time will decide it.
