| New fare rates yet to come | | Commuters turn angry as transporters charge at will | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 13 Even as life in Jammu come to normal as the public transport resumed on the roads today, there was lot of resentment among commuters as transporters resort to charging new rates at their will in absence of revised fare rates which was yet to be released by the authorities. The commuters were seen arguing with the matador conductors who were charging Rs 1 rupee extra for the earlier rates for different distance of journey. While the commuters were not ready to pay more than 14 percent additional fare as increased by the government, the matador conductors were seen charging Rs 1 extra for all categories of distances. As earlier the rates for less 3 kilometer journey was Rs 3, the conductors were seen charging Rs 4 for the same distance. Similarly, the transporters were seen forcing the commuters to give Rs 5 for more than 3 kilometer distance against earlier Rs 4. The commuters arguing with conductor on the new scheme of fares was a common scene all most all the routes as the Transport authorities have not yet released the new fare rates. |
