Rangarajan to ensure balanced economic development of all the three regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Nirmal Singh State BJP President has expressed the hope that the working group would take a serious cognizance of the regional imbalances and suggest concrete measures to ensure balanced development in all the three regions of the State. In a communication addressed to Rangaran Chairman Working Group of Economic Development, Prof Singh has cited several examples indicating discrimination with Jammu and Lakadh regions and in this connection referred to the constitution of Gajendragadkar Commission in 1967, Wazir Commission in 1981 and the Singhal Committee in 1998. He said that Jammu province has suffered gross regional imbalance and neglect and this fact has been recognized in unambiguous terms by inquiry commissions constituted by the state government from time to time. BJP Chief alleged that right from the day of the State’s accession to the Indian Dominion, funds for development schemes have become the sole privilege of the Valley alone with Jammu and Ladakh regions getting only crumbs. He also gave details to substantiate his charges. Saying that BJP is a national party and its approach simply can not be parochial or narrow, the BJP Chief said adding that some mechanism would have to be evolved to end discrimination with the region .He said that a radical change in the existing set up has become a dire necessity adding that the people of Jammu need a definite political instrument that could empower them to manage their own affairs themselves in a meaningful manner. Grant of a political instrument to people of Jammu region is the only panacea available to surmount the problem they have been facing ever since 1947, the BJP Chief maintained.
