| Mangat lauds BSF's role in safeguarding borders, combating militancy | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 13 Minister for Health and Medical Education, Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma has appreciated the role of Border Security Forces (BSF's) in the state for providing medicare facilities to the people, especially living in far off and hilly terrains of the state, besides discharging duties for safe guarding the borders of the country and combating infiltration with devotion and dedication. Minister was inaugurating a 3-day conference on "Mental Health Problems and High Altitude Diseases in Forces", organized by BSF today at composite hospital Humhama, Srinagar. Inspector General, BSF Frontier Kashmir, Baljit Singh, IG BSF (Medical) Dr. R. S. Rathore, DIG BSF (Medical) Srinagar Dr. M. I. Khan, Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. A. K. Peer, eminent doctors of BSF, CRPF, ITBP and GMC Srinagar participated in the conference. Health Minister underscored the need in sorting out ways and means for brining out the security personnel from psychiatric diseases, especially those who discharge their duties in far off and hilly terrains in the State, where such cases are increasing day by day. Giving suggestions, Sharma said that "In my opinion the leave period of such security personnel should be extended and arrangements for accompanying their families at their duty places should be also upgraded". He said organizing such conferences would be more beneficial to sort out the remedies of this diseases and stressed that such conference should be organized at a large scale. He also assured all possible assistance from the state government to the organization for up gradation of health care facilities. In his welcome address IG BSF Kashmir apprised the audience about the impending discussions planned for the day long seminar. He said that the conference was the sixth series in the country and was first of its kind in J&K organized by BSF at Srinagar. He said that highlights of the conference were to dwell upon the common mental health problems and diseases faced by the force personnel while remaining deployed for prolonged period in difficult terrain along the Line of Control. Psychiatric problems arising due to severe serving conditions and their remedies were discussed at length during the conference, he added. |
