| Dogra Education College celebrates annual day | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 13 Government was keen to contribute its bit to make Jammu a hub of Higher education stated Minister for higher education , Gulchain Singh Charak while addressing students and staff on the annual day function of Dogra College of Education where he was invited as chief guest. Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof Amitabh Matto was the guest of honour. One of the oldest teachers training institution, Dogra College has achieved the distinction of bagging first position in the last B.Ed examination. Highlighting the achievements of coalition government in education sector, Minister said that last couple of years has witnessed unprecedented expansion both at school and higher education level. He said opening of new colleges, universities and establishment of extension campuses of Jammu University have taken the higher education to the doorsteps of rural areas. He said Jammu city has particularly emerged as a hub of education activities with number of educational institutions coming up in both private and government sector. Recalling his association with the Dogra College of Education, Minister said it founded as an elementary school forty three years ago and gradually emerged as a college of education. He asked the college management to continue to hard work to maintain the reputation, which the institution has achieved after years of hard work. Speaking on the occasion, JU Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Matoo reiterated his resolve to work for improving the Higher education standards in Jammu University and its affiliated colleges. He declared that some path breaking initiatives would be taken in coming months for further streamlining of the Higher education in Jammu region. Prof Matoo appreciated the college management for maintaining high standards in the institutions and hoped that it would touch new heights in the days to come. The students of the college also presented a scintillating cultural programme on the occasion. Earlier, the Chief guest and Guest of Honour distributed prizes among the students for excellence in Academics and co-curricular activities. The college also honored Anita Dewan who toped in the last B.Ed exams. The third issue of college magazine Shikshak was also released on the occasion. |
