| Lt Col among 5 killed by militant | | | Early Times Reporter Kishtwar | June 13 Five Beacon officials including commanding officer and two jawans of Territorial Army were killed in a militant attack on Chattro-Simthan road near watsar, 45 kilometers from here, this evening. A team of Beacon officials had gone to conduct the inspection of under construction Chattro-Simthan road when they were ambushed at watsar. Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the team was on its way back to Kishtwar from Chattro when militants ambushed the vehicle and open indiscriminate firing, killing all the five officials including the Commanding Officer (OC). Sources said that two Beacon officers OC and OIC (AEE) were on way to Simthan top from Chatroo in their official vehicle to check the road status falling in the jurisdiction of PS Chatroo. While reaching near the Watsar area their vehicle was ambushed by the militants who fired indiscriminately upon them resulting into their killing alongwith driver of the vehicle and two body guards, sources told News Agency of Kashmir The militants fled from the spot in dense forests after committing the crime and the police with association of Army rushed on the spot and shifted them to hospital where doctors declared all of them as brought dead. The deceased Commanding officer and his 2/IC have been identified as Lt Col Ajay Verma and S.K.Singh; while the identification of two security guards and driver was not ascertained immediately. However, Jammu based defence spokesman when contacted confirmed that five people have been killed in a militant ambush at Sinthan top, adding the Beacon officials had gone for an inspection when they were attacked by a militant group. He said the Commanding officer Lt Col Ajay Verma his 2/IC, two security guards who were deployed from TA battalion and their driver got killed. He identified 2/IC as S P Sharma and the identity of two security guards was not ascertained immediately. Meanwhile army and police launched a manhunt to trace the militants who managed to escape in dense forests after carrying the attack. |
