100 Sofi artists from foreign countries and India to perform at SKICC

The Kashmir Valley is all set to witness the 3-day International Sofi Music and Dance festival at Sher-e Kashmir International Convention Complex. About 100 artists from Pakistan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Syria and India are participating in this historic event commencing from June 19.
This is for the first time that internationally famed Qawalls' from Pakistan, Amjad Khan Sabri and reputed theatre Group Ajoka Theatre are going to perform at Srinagar during the festival.
A Spokesperson of State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, in an informal chat with the media persons at summer capital here this afternoon said that the performance of internationally renowned groups of five countries of the world in the Valley is a part to encourage cultural exchanges between various nations and ethnicities of the globe.
He said that since our State has long history of Sufi traditions, therefore the artists were keen to perform in the J&K and interact with people. This will go a long way in flourishing our cultural traditions and woo the tourists from around the globe to witness this maiden event in the Valley, the paradise on earth.
"The inauguration and closing ceremonies of the festival will be held at SKICC on June 19 and June 21 respectively. Governor Lt .Gen. S.K Sinha , Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr. Karan Singh , President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, besides number of dignitaries including the senior officers of various embassies, are reaching Srinagar to witness this international event" , the added.
"The event shall be inaugurated with the sizzling performance of Kashmiri Sofiyana by Yaqoob Shiekh, the descendent of famous Sofi Gharana of Kashmir headed by Ghulam Mohammad Qaleenbaf, followed by the performance of internationally renowned artist Radhika Chopra. The main attraction of inaugural day will be Sofi Folk and Dance performance from Egypt", the spokesman said.
Similarly on June 20, the programme will begin with the highly acclaimed artists from Mumbai Meeta Vashist followed by the Qawalli by world famous Qawal Amjad Ali Sabri and party from Pakistan.
The concluding day will witness three sizzling performances by the artists from Syria, Uzbekistan followed by the performance of internationally acclaimed Ajoka theatre group’s landmark production "Bullah", a famous play depicting the life and massage of Sofi saint Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah, the spokesman added.
The programme to begin daily at 5 pm is the joint venture of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages, while Doordarshan Kender Srinagar, J&K Tourism Department and J&K Information Departments would be collaborating it.
