| PDP to seek mandate for pursuing pro-people agenda: Mufti | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 17 Former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today exhorted the party workers to seek mandate from the public to accomplish the pro-people agenda being pursued by the party since its inception. Addressing a meeting of the senior party leaders at Jammu in connection with preparations of the forthcoming assembly elections, Sayeed said that PDP has pioneered a political and economic agenda to fulfill wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society and it is need of the hour to educate the masses about this agenda of the party. "Establishing sustainable peace and to consolidate reconciliation process is on the top of the party's agenda", he said and called upon PDP leaders to take this agenda among the masses to frustrate evil designs of anti-peace forces. Highlighting the achievements of the party after 2002, Sayeed that it is result of the efforts of the PDP that peoples' faith has revived in democratic institutions. "Through its significant and historical steps, PDP has consolidated reconciliation process and facilitated the efforts to establish lasting peace in this region", he said, adding, "opening of the Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads, allowing travel on permit without passport and a sustainable and lasting ceasefire along the borders are the achievements of the PDP". He said healing touch policy propagated by the PDP to reduce alienation of the people was endorsed by the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and his successor Dr Manmohan Singh. He said that PDP led regime stopped violation of human rights and harassment of the innocent citizens. Calling upon party leaders to start aggressive campaign, Mufti Sayeed asked them to staunchly highlight PDP's agenda before the masses to seek mandate to secure peace, progress and dignity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also formulated a detailed tour programme of the senior party leaders to spread message of the party. Vice-president and MLC Ved Mahajan, Rajya Sabha member Trilok Singh Bajwa, Rangil Singh, general secretary, Daman Bhasin, Shanti Devi, MLA, Sayeed Asgar Ali, Renu Azad, Baldev Singh Slathia, R K Bali, Abdul Rashid Malik, Suram Singh and Dr Roop Lal also attended the meeting. |
