| DB issues notice against extraction of Gypsum | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 17 In a petition filed by inhabitants of village Gagla-Duga area against extraction of Gypsum, the Division Bench of the State High Court, comprising Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan and Justice Sunil Hali today issued notice to State through Chief Secretary, Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce, Director Geology & Mining , Senior Drilling Engineer overall In charge Jammu Province, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Officer In charge Geology and Mining District Doda and Contractor with the direction to list the petition after vacation. The petition has been filed by the inhabitants of village Gagla-Duga whose main source of income is the irrigated and un-irrigated land. It has been alleged in the petition that being a hilly area digging of Gypsum from all sides has destroyed the very structure of the said lands. In the petition, filed through Adv Rupak Ratta, it has been submitted that any digging for extraction of Gypsum from the area will destroy natural as well as social topography and shall put impetus to the sliding zone and as a result the area will lose its stability and devastate, as 75% of area has already been affected. The petition sought directions to the respondents to stop extraction of the gypsum from the area (JNF). |
