| JAT deputation meets SCBC members | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 17 A deputation of JAT Kalyan Sabha called on the members of the state commission for backward classes at Kathua under the presidentship of Kamal Singh and Kathua unit President Ch. Sudesh. As per a release, he apprised the commission that JAT community has been marginalized in Govt services as the drop out rate among the children is very alarming literacy rate is very low, participation in administration is almost nil, living conditions are very poor, mostly living in interior and backward areas and on the borders so it is impossible for them to impart quality education to their wards and compete with the elite communities. He also apprised the members that JAT community is mostly dependent on farming since the land holding is inadequate. He also informed that the JATs of Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal, Madhya Pardesh, UP and Gujarat have been included in the OBC list. He further added that the literacy rate as per the survey is 16% socially they are treated as backward class by higher castes. There is not even a single IPS, IFS, IAS, KAS, KPS officer of the community in the state. The community fully deserved OBC status. He further informed that JATS were grouped as backward in vernacular of tribal custom which was prepared by Layli at revision of settlement in 1868 during the British rule but now when we JATs have lacked behind of all other backward communities, we are denied the backward status by the successive Govt, the release added. |
