Pahalgam | June 17
Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today described as misleading the propaganda unleashed by some people with vested interest about permanent structures being raised by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
"Despite repeated clarifications that no permanent structure has been raised, an orchestrated campaign continues to vitiate the atmosphere', the Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Board, said while discussing the yatra arrangements with officers at Sheshnagh, Chandanwari and Pahalga,
The Governor said that ever since the Board took over the charge of managing the yatra; special measures were initiated and improved with every passing year to ensure health and hygiene in camping sites and enroute the Cave Shrine keeping in view the environmental requirements. The obsolete open deep trench toilet emitting foul smell has been replaced by environmental friendly, modern and scientific system that leaves zero scope for pollution. He said that not a single permanent structure has been constructed by the Shrine Board anywhere. The prefabricated shelters with wooden floor were easily removable and proved of immense help when they were immediately made available by the Shrine Board for use at Uri and Tangdhar after the 2005 earthquake. He was happy to find that measures had been taken to ban polythene and ensure that the Lidder river was not polluted. The new system of having separate routes for tourists and pilgrim traffic as also allowing pilgrims who so wanted to say in local hotels in Pahalgam, has been welcomed.
The Governor anticipated a heavy pilgrim rush this year in view of the message having gone around about the full formation of Shivlingam this year. He said that all the departments should gear up their field agencies to ensure regulated pilgrimage.
General Sinha interacted with pilgrims, officials, local workers and langerwallas at various places and gave directions for solving their problems. He asked for deployment of more ponies to enable langerwallas lift their supplies to forward destinations. Responding to the request of ponywallas at Sheshnag about arrangements to be made for them to offer prayers, he directed that this be done immediately.
The Governor also discussed security arrangments with various agencies and stressed on close synergy between them to ensure smooth and regulated yatra. He also urged the officers to remain available at their designated places to for providing necessary assistance to the pilgrims.
At Chandanwari, it was decided that the yatra will leave Nunwan before 9 am and cross Sadhu Parao at till 1 P M. No pilgrim will be allowed to move beyond Betab Valley after 2 p.m. The yatries have been urged not to stay at Chandanwari, the place being only a transit camp where no facilities for stay are available. Similarly, the pilgrims were advised not to say at the Holy Cave.
