| Open misuse of subsidized LPG, authorities silent. | | | Ajay Meenia. R.S. Pura August 31: Thefts are generally carried out ambiguously but there is a theft, which is being, committed everywhere so explicitly before every person’s eyes, being at the receiving end, they are suffering the loss but despite that they are behaving like mute spectators and the authorities are also doing the same. This is the theft of Domestic gas, which has been used in lieu of commercial gas by the shopkeepers for which the common man is suffering the ultimate blow of punch because he has to payoff the price in the form of tax to the government. But this is the irony of the fate that despite disbursing all the taxes one cannot avail oneself of required domestic gas on the right time. It has been generally observed that the shopkeepers by ignoring all the norms and rules are making use of domestic gas as a substitute for commercial gas because of subsidies on domestic gas, which costs them low in comparison with commercial gas. The domestic gas costs Rs.301 per cylinder (and each cylinder weighing 14.2 Kg), where as the commercial gas overheads Rs.967 per cylinder (and each cylinder weighs 19 Kg.). It is obvious that a shopkeeper saves Rs.666 per 6 Kg of gas and for this reason the shopkeepers, for their vested interest, are utilizing the domestic gas in lieu of commercial gas. From the Legal point of view, shopkeepers are not authorized to use the domestic gas but they have been using it with out any fear or hesitation of norms and rules of law. Police, whenever makes surprise raids the black-marketing of such cylinders dramatically comes to zero level but soon thereafter the scenario regains the previous conditions. In R.S.Pura there are only two gas agencies –HP Gas Agency and Bharat Gas Agency, which have registered not more than 50 commercial gas connections where as the number of domestic gas connections number 32 thousand. Speaking to Early Times, the dealer of HP Gas Agency said that they have registered 20 thousand domestic gas connections and contrary to it they have only 32 commercial gas connections. Meanwhile the dealer of Bharat Gas said that they have registered 12 thousand domestic gas connections where as merely 21 commercial gas connections have been registered so far. Hence it is self evident that all the sweet sellers, tea-stallers, dhaba- wallas and other such shopkeepers use domestic gas with out any check or balance. While Complaining to Early Times locals said that the Agency owners are hand in glove with the local administration and the nexus is benefiting the shopkeepers in getting domestic gas in lieu of commercial gas by looting the privileges of common masses. Meanwhile, Early Times when brought the issue into the notice of SDPO, RS. Pura, Dr.Ajit Singh, he said that they keep on taking steps against those who use domestic gas for the commercial purposes. In the support of this purpose special teams are framed which make surprise raids and grab the guilty parties on the spot. He further added that recently they conducted such raids in the area in which several cylinders were seized and the guilty were fined. He assured to take every possible action to stop the theft of domestic gas in the area.
