| Mughal road great threat to environment, security: BJP | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 18 Expressing grave concern over the threat posed to the environment by the construction of Mugal road, Bhartia Janta Party has asked the government to immediately stop work on the medieval Mugal Road for the sake of ecology and security of the country. In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, BJP Vice President, Professor Hari Om criticized the statements of PDP and Deputy Chief Minister Muzzaffar Hussain Baig in which outrageous views were expressed on the transfer of some land at Baltal to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) on the pretext of "environmental degradation" while neglecting the fact that the Mughal Road would not only cause grave threat to ecology but also to the security of the country as a whole. Hari Om said that the construction and reopening of the Mughal Road would not only pose a real danger to wild life and the rich forest area and harm bio-diversity, but would also help the protagonists of Greater Kashmir comprising the Muslim Kashmir and the Muslim-majority areas of Jammu and Ladakh provinces achieve what they couldn't during all these sixty years. Stressing upon the Jammu based congress leaders to protest the construction of road as the former Prime Minister had outrightly rejected the suggestions of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah regarding the reopening of the road. "Indira Gandhi and her security advisors had put their foot down, saying the construction of the Mughal Road would help Pakistan establish its control over the Poonch-Rajouri areas, thus constituting a grave threat to national security," said Prof Hari Om. Drawing attention of the Congress and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to the grave evils that would follow on the reopening of the Mughal Road, Prof Hari Om said the reopening of this road would be a spectacular victory of Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir, who have been striving to de-link the Muslim-majority areas of Jammu and Kashmir from India. Hari Om urged the people of Jammu province to join hands against those in Jammu province who have been hand-in-glove with the Kashmiri leaders who are seeing in the construction of the Mughal Road an opportunity that would help them de-link the Muslim-majority areas from Jammu province and integrate them with the Muslim Kashmir. |
