| BGSBU VC persuaded Raj Govt on talks with Gujjars | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 18 The Vice chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University,Rajouri,Masud A.Choudhary has played a vital role in persuading the Rajasthan Government for holding talks with the Gujjar leaders whose agitation,in favour of securing ST status,had assumed serious dimensions. Choudhary spent several days in Rajasthan where he held talks with the Gujjar leaders,including Col.Kirori Singh Bainsla. He returned to Jammu In reply to a question Choudhary, who had been appointed vicechancellor of the University after his retirement as Additional Director General Police.said that he was for sustained talks and hoped that the Rajasthan Government demonstrated flexibility so that there was no reason for Gujjars for indulging in violence.It may be mentiond here that Mr Choudhary has been quite popular among the Gujjars even while he held important posts in the police.His colleagues in the police used to call him "Gujjar Imam" after he was seen preparing memoranda of Gujjar bodies which would be sent to the Prime Ministers and other dignitaries in the centre and in Jammu and Kashmir. Gujjar leaders in Jammu openly appreciate the role of Mr Choudhary played in securing ST status for the ethnic community in Jammu and Kashmir.(KIP) yesterday.Asked whether he acted as a mediator between the agitating Gujjar leaders and the Rajasthan Chief Minister,Mr Choudhary said "I did not mediate between the two sides but I tried my level best to defuse the crisis." He said his efforts have succeeded in arranging meetings between the two sides resulting in the settlement of the crisis. |
