| Indian army seeks Pak Rangers help to recover bodies | | Bodies of engineering students yet to be traced | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 18 Jammu and Kashmir police and army has sought the help of Pakistan Rangers to trace bodies of two polytechnic students, who were drowned in Jhelum river at Rajwar in Uri, near the Line of Control on Monday. Official sources said that Pakistan Rangers have been requested to extend their help to trace the bodies of two students drowned in the river and photographs of the deceased have also been handed over to the other side. "We have made a formal request to Rangers through army and we hope that the bodies will be recovered soon", Station House Officer (SHO) Uri Abdul Rashid Khan told News Agency of Kashmir. The SHO said that the searches of the bodies were going on in the river from last three days but bodies were yet to be fished out. "We believe that the bodies may have drowned and crossed to the other side of border", he said adding that the routine flag meeting is also likely to be held between Indian and Pakistan army on the Line of Control on Thursday during which the matter will be again taken up. The two engineering students of SSM College Pattan, Basharat Nabi Sheikh and Nazir Ahmad Mir were drowned in the river near NHPC power house Uri. This is not for the first time that help of Pakistan army has been sought to recover bodies from river Jhelum in Uri sector. Earlier a driver was drowned in the river and his body was recovered from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and handed over to Indian army by Pak Rangers. |
