Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 11: National Conference State Secretary Rattan Lal Gupta on Monday expressed concern over the continued detention of political leaders and demanded their release and restoration of political activities in the Valley on immediate basis.
In a statement, the state secretary described the detention of the leaders as unprecedented and undemocratic, saying this is against the democratic ethos of the country.
"In the interest of peace and early return of normalcy in the Valley, it is imperative to release all the leaders and others detained after August 5", he said.
Gupta also referred to the damages caused to fruit cultivation, as also to other crops in the Valley in the wake of snowfall and sought immediate relief to the sufferers.
He sought preliminary survey of the damages by revenue authorities and said that till the time the report is submitted, interim compensation should be provided to all those who have suffered damages.
The State Secretary also expressed grief over loss of life following snowfall and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.
He sought ex-gratia in favour of the next of kin of the deceased. He also urged the government to expedite restoration of power supply and road connectivity by undertaking snow clearance measures across the Valley. Gupta also sought restoration of power supply and other utility services in the Jammu region.
