Jammu | June 18
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will be hosting customary grand farewell party before the departure of Governor SK Sinha from Raj Bhawan on June 25. Official sources revealed that a comprehensive guest list is being readied and invitations will be sent to the invitees to attend the farewell party shortly.
Though large number of political leaders, academicians, senior police and army officers are expected to attend the farewell but it remains to be seen whether PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed would turn up to say good bye to Governor SK Sinha or simply stay away and see his back from the safe distance.
Both Mufti and Governor Sinha shared a cordial relationship in the beginning but relations turned sour between them over the issue of granting extension to two month long Amarnath pilgrimage. After Mufti Mohd Sayeed's departure from the office of chief minister in October 2005 Congress nominee Ghulam Nabi Azad in an apparent bid to tease Mufti Mohd Sayeed maintained cordial relations with t he Governor and often visited him and took guidance from him on the state centric and security related issues.Governor and Chief Minister GhulamNabi Azad also remained at the forefront and rejected PDP's campaign in support of demilitarization as mere political gimmick.
By and large the tenure of SK Sinha will be remembered in Jammu and Kashmir for improving infrastructure facilities for pilgrims visiting Amarnath and Vaishnodevi shrine.Governor has one satisfaction that the flow of pilgrims to Amarnath cave was likely to touch four lakhs. He had relief when he was told that for the first time over 19,000 yatris left Srinagar for the mountain cave via Baltal route today.
Towards the fag end of his tenure the Governor was in the midst of a controversy over the transfer of land to the Shrine Board .He leaves the Raj Bhawan with another satisfaction that during his tenure he,as chancellor of six universities, remained instrumental in ensuring academic excellence.
Before demitting office Mr Sinha is scheduled to visit Mata Vaishnov Devi Shrine. He is expected to spend few days in Jammu and would utilize the time to meet cross section of people who stood behind him during all these years.he is also expected to meet several top army officers in Jammu before packing his bags to return to Kashmir.
